11 góð rapplög um konur (í tilefni konudagsins)

Konudagurinn er haldinn hátíðlegur í dag, 21. febrúar. Í tilefni þess tókum við saman 11 lög sem rapparar hafa tileinkað konum (eða sem vegsama málefni kvenna að einhverju leyti) en ef eitthvað hefur smánað virðuleika rapps í gegnum tíðina þá er það hugsunarleysi, græðgi og kvenfyrirlitning – og þá sérstaklega hið síðastnefnda.

Hér fyrir neðan eru ellefu lög sem hafa spornað við þessari þróun:

1. Shad  – Keep Shining

„There’s no girls rapping so we’re only hearing half the truth /
What we have to lose? Too much /
Half our youth aren’t represented, the better halves of dudes /
So we don’t hear about your brain, just your brains /“

2. Mos Def and Talib Kweli – Brown Skin Lady

„You fruitful, beautiful, smart, lovable, huggable
Doable like art, suitable to be part.“

3. Tupac feat. Outlawz – Baby Don’t Cry

„Even though it wasn’t me, I could feel the grief /
Thinkin’ with your brains blown that would make the pain go /
No! You got to find a way to survive /
‘Cause they win when your soul dies /“

4. Salt N Pepa None of Your Business

„If I want to take a guy home with me tonight /
It’s none of your business /
And she want to be a freak and sell it on the weekend /
It’s none of your business / “

5. Method Man feat. Mary J. Blige – You’re All I Need

„Shorty, I’m there for you anytime you need me /
For real, girl, it’s me in your world, believe me /“

6. Lauryn Hill Doo Wop

„Girlfriend, let me break it down for you again /
You know I only say it cause I’m truly genuine /
Don’t be a hard rock when you really are a gem /
Baby girl, respect is just a minimum /
Ni#%as fucked up and you still defending ’em /“

7. Common – The Light

„It’s important we communicate /
And tune the fate of this union to the right pitch /
I never call you my bitch or even my boo /
There’s so much in a name and so much more in you /“

8. Tupac – Keep Your Head Up

„And since we all came from a woman /
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman /
I wonder why we take from our women /
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?/ “

 9. Tupac – Dear Mama

„And there’s no way I can pay you back /
But my plan is to show you that I understand /
You are appreciated.“

10. HONORABLE MENTIONS:

The Roots feat. Erykah Badu – You Got Me

„We knew from the start that /

Things fall apart and tend to shatter /

She like that shit don’t matter /

When I get home get at her /“

11. Kanye West – Hey Mama

„You work late nights just to keep on the lights /

Mommy got me training wheels so I could keep on my bike /“
